Sara our golden retriver got the all clear from the vet. Yeah!
Sara had TPLO knee surgery on December 9th and spent the last 2 months recovering. After the first few days she was able to use her leg but we had to be careful not to use it too much. There were 5 minute walks 2 times a day but that was it. The vet has said that the knee has held perfectly and we can increase the activity. She will be on leash for the next 4 weeks and then just as the snow melts she will be able to run free.

Atermath of the Weather Bomb in St. John's #Newfoundland
So the snow didn't stop until the early hours of the morning and it's started to pick up again. We had about 45 cm fall so far and up to another 15 cm on the way today. I'm so glad my neighbour was able to arrange delivery of my new snow blower (you can see him poking his head above the drift in front of his garage). Having a snow blower made cleaning up the mess a little easier.
Now for the bad news. In the satellite image I'm sure you can see the hurricane formation with the eye almost over the Avalon portion of Newfoundland. We are in the eye of the storm with another band likely to hit later today. If you look to the south however you may see another weather system just off the coast of Nova Scotia. This storm could bring more snow.

Weather Bomb hits St. John's #Newfoundland
It's gonna be a stormy night. Just look at that dark orange band of moisture that will arrive over night. It looks like a hurricane and if this was hurricane season they would call it a hurrican. St. John's and vicinity continued
An intense low pressure system east of the Grand Banks has spread strong northerly winds and snow to most of Newfoundland tonight giving blizzard conditions.
This is a warning that blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities are occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
Snow and blowing snow over Eastern Newfoundland will persist this evening and gradually improve overnight or early Saturday as winds diminish and temperatures rise to near zero. Further snowfall amounts of between 20 and 35 centimetres are forecast for the Northern Avalon Peninsula and east coast with lesser amounts expected over the remainder of the island. As well strong northerly winds gusting up to 110 km/h are forecast for Eastern Newfoundland and combined with the fresh snow will give blowing snow and blizzard conditions.

The snow is begining to pile up in Paradise. Some drifts are as high as a Mazda 3. This neighbour just got me a great deal on a snowblower so I guess I should give him a hand.

Getting hard to see the houses across the street
The wind is picking up and it's getting hard to see the houses across the street. My guess is we have 15 cm of new snow on the ground and another 45 cm on the way today / tonight. The forecast is calling for a second storm erly in the week that could bring another 60 cms. Thank goodness my snow blower just arrived. :-)

Curried Chicken Lentil Soup Receipe
4 skinless chicken breasts
3/4 cup lentils
5 cups chicken stock
1 tsp olive oil
2 yellow onions diced
2 tsp curry powder
1/2 tsp ground ginger
4 gloes minced garlic
2 cups diced plum tomatoes
1 tsp lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste

Put lentils in a small saucepan and cover with cold water about 2 inches over the top. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook about 25 mins. Set aside. Bring the chicken stock to a boil in a sauce pan. Reduce the heat, add chicken, and cook about 6 to 8 mins. Remove chicken from stock and set aside. Reserve the stock for the soup. When the chicken is cool enough to handle, cut into bite sized pieces.
Heat oil over moderate heat. Cook the chopped onions for about 10 minutes, until tender and translucent. Add the curry, ginger, and garlic, and cook for 2-3 mins. Add the reserved stock to the onion mixture. Simmer about 10 mins. Add the diced tomatoes and lentils and bring to a boil. Add lemon juice and salt and papper to taste. Add the chicken and heat through and serve.
